A: The perseverance shown by our students in the face of adversity, especially in the last two years.

Q: What is a fun fact about you, your town, your University?
A: Our mascot once had a girlfriend named Bernice. She mysteriously disappeared.

A: Live sports broadcasting tools

A: NC State has had five different official names since it was founded.

A: WKNC Radio’s You’ll Never Believe Me Butt podcast

A: University of South Carolina

Q: How long have you been in student media?
A: Since November

Q: What are you most proud of at your current Student Media org?
A: The students! I am so proud of the hard work our students put in each day/week. It’s truly an honor working with them!

Q: What is a fun fact about you, your town, your University?
A: I was an advertising major and graduated from UofSC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC). Then came back to work as an advisor & advertising adjunct instructor in the SJMC. Now, I’m working as the advertising director for GMG at UofSC. I guess three things are for sure… I love UofSC, working with students, and working in advertising. 

Q: What is a media project you would most like to pick someone’s brain about?
A: Programmatic advertising

Q: What is your favorite snack on a road trip?
A: Starbucks caramel frap and kettle chips.

A: Velyn Scarborough

Q: At what school do you work?
A: Oregon State University

Q: How long have you been in student media?
A: 4.5 years

Q: What are you most proud of at your current Student Media org?
A: The resilience of our students during COVID.  When students and professional staff were asked to work remote, our students used their critical thinking skills to find creative ways to keep journalism and broadcasting growing and support their remote teams.  When we transitioned back to in-person, the students quickly work to create welcoming environments, gave grace as people relearned how to connect in person and tackled stories that supported the student population in their transition to in-person.

Q: What is a fun fact about you, your town, your University?
A: Me: In college I led a group of 30 students to visit Japan over Spring break.

Corvallis: Corvallis was originally named Marysville but was renamed to Corvallis by Avery in 1853 to avoid confusion with Marysville, California. Avery is credited with coining the town ‘Corvallis’ a name which he made up by compounding the Latin words for ‘heart of the valley’

Oregon State University: OSU is only one of two universities in the US that has been honored with land, sea, space and sun grant designations.

Q: What is a media project you would most like to pick someone’s brain about?
A: How to set up a successful donation/endowment program to support student media.

A: Taco flavored Doritos

A: CSU Channel Islands

Q: How long have you been in student media?
A: Since February 2019

Q: What are you most proud of at your current Student Media org?
A: That my students have not faltered once in telling powerful stories, even through being virtual for a year and a half and going through a pandemic themselves!

Q: What is a fun fact about you, your town, your University?
A: Me: I am a twin! I am 1 minute older.

Town: My hometown means Pumpkin in Spanish!

University: Our campus was first a state mental hospital!

Q: What is a media project you would most like to pick someone’s brain about?
A: Long form pieces that cover many years!

A: Honey mustard pretzel nuggets!
